Installing WordPress

wordpressWordPress is a blog tool and publishing platform.  This article will show you how to get started with an installation.  You will need web hosting in order to use WordPress.

Installation

  1. Create a MySQL database (eg called wordpress) and create an admin user.
  2. Create an appropriate sub domain (eg blog.yourdomain.com).
  3. Download the latest version of WordPress.
  4. Extract the zip file on your web host.
  5. Rename the wp-config-sample.php file to wp-config.php.
  6. Edit the wp-config.php file as follows

define('DB_NAME', 'putyourdbnamehere'); // The name of the database
define('DB_USER', 'usernamehere'); // Your MySQL username
define('DB_PASSWORD', 'yourpasswordhere'); // ...and password
define('DB_HOST', 'localhost'); // 99% chance you won't need to change this value

Now you can run the WordPress installation script by accessing wp-admin/install.php in your favourite web browser.
